Dear Jack

In the summer of 2012, the Broadbent Institute spearheaded a social media initiative to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of Jack Layton.

The campaign encouraged Canadians to share how Jack Layton’s parting message of love, hope, and optimism lives on.

Thousands of expressions in words, pictures, and video were posted at DearJack.ca, as well as on a related Facebook page and other social media platforms.

On August 22, 2012, thousands converged on Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square for a celebration of Jack Layton that featured live performances by Dallas Green, Jason Collett, Ron Sexsmith, Raffi, Lorraine Segato, Richard Underhill, Eric Peterson, Chalkmaster Dave, and more. Other commemorative grassroots events took place across Canada the same day.
