This year as the government steamrolled numerous regressive policies through Parliament with the massive C-38 omnibus bill, the Broadbent Institute stood alongside progressive organizations from across Canada and confronted the Conservative tactics that run roughshod over our democracy.

In a progressive society it is important that there are a multitude of voices. That’s why in the face of American-style attacks on unions by Conservatives across Canada – such as  Conservative government’s Bill C-377 and the Hudak Conservatives’ White Paper on Labour Markets – the Broadbent Institute is there to stand up for unions and challenge their baseless arguments.

The recent economic crisis has provided right-wing forces with a new bogeyman with which to frighten Canadians into supporting deep cuts into our public services in the name of “austerity.” There appears to be no limit to the anti-democratic tactics Conservatives will use to try to masquerade their regressive policies as “necessary” for our economic good.

It’s time for progressives to stand together against right-wing policies and arguments – and the Broadbent Institute is there to stand up for progressives across Canada.
