Holding both a B.A. and an M.A. in Economics from McGill University, George has a distinguished career within the progressive movement both in Canada and abroad.
George has served a number of labour unions and progressive political bodies, notably as Chief of Staff to Ed Broadbent during the New Democratic Party's breakthrough 1988 election and working with Jack Layton in the 2008 federal election and Tom Mulcair in the 2011 federal election.
George has also been active with a number of labour force organizations and sector councils: George was Executive Director for the Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress (CSTEC) and also served as Chair of the Sector Council Steering Committee; the Working Group in the Mining Industry Training and Adjustment Council; and the Canadian Grocery Producers Council Industry Adjustment Service Committee.
Most recently, George served as a board member at the Broadbent Institute.
