Hugh Segal to lead Q&A with former Clinton Secretary of Labor Robert Reich at November Gala

OTTAWA—The Broadbent Institute is pleased to announce that Hugh Segal, Master of Massey College at the University of Toronto, will be interviewing renowned economist and author Robert Reich following Reich's keynote address at the Institute's second annual Progress Gala in November in Toronto.

Segal will join Reich on stage after the Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration makes the case to tackle economic inequality to an audience of political leaders and policy influencers.

“Both Hugh Segal and Robert Reich are witty, smart and engaging, and there’s no doubt the two together will make for an entertaining evening,” said Ed Broadbent, Chair of the Broadbent Institute.

“I’m delighted to be a part of the Broadbent Institute’s Progress Gala and help shine a light on solutions to address inequality,” added Segal.

Reich, a high-profile business commentator and professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley, has authored 13 books. His latest project, the award-winning Inequality for All, is a must-see documentary.

The participation of Reich and Segal in the Progress Gala underscores the Broadbent Institute's commitment to furthering the discussion regarding income inequality in Canada and advancing positive solutions to address the problem. The Gala falls on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the unanimous passage of a motion in the House of Commons to end child poverty in Canada; Broadbent tabled the motion as a Member of Parliament.

The Progress Gala will take place on November 20, 2014 at the former Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The Platinum Sponsor is Loblaw Companies Ltd. and the VIP Reception Sponsor is General Electric Canada. The media sponsor is The Hill Times.
