Broadbent Institute convenes progressives for BC launch with one of New York City’s top organizers; hosts luncheon, Democracy: beyond the ballot box with NYC civic leader

VANCOUVER—The Broadbent Institute will be holding its British Columbia launch with one of New York City’s top organizers as a special guest and hosting a luncheon with a leading NYC civic engagement leader as part of the Institute’s inaugural events in BC. The Broadbent Institute is a national progressive policy and training organization dedicated to promoting democracy, equality and sustainability.

LAUNCH:

WHAT: The Broadbent Institute’s inaugural BC event, BC Progress: building power, advancing democracy, with special guest from New York City, Ana Maria Archila, co-Executive Director of the Center for Popular Democracy.

WHEN: Monday, June 9, at 7:30 pm PST

LUNCHEON:

WHAT: Democracy beyond the ballot box: learning from NYC’s Talking Transition tent with feature presenter Andrea Batista Schlesinger, deputy director of U.S. Programs at the Open Society Foundations. Batista Schlesinger, who served as special advisor to NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, will share her lessons from a pioneering model for civic engagement during the transition to the new municipal administration under Mayor Bill de Blasio.
