Unique course offered in partnership with leading Democratic firm
OTTAWA—As part of its commitment to supporting the development of a new generation of Canadian leaders, the Broadbent Institute has launched the Camp Progress Practicum, a new hands-on, intensive training and placement opportunity for Canadian campaigners, organizers and activists. The program is offered in collaboration with 270 Strategies, a firm founded by senior strategists from U.S. President Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 campaigns.
Participants will take part in initial intensive grassroots campaign training sessions taught by leading strategists, activists and thought leaders, then apply those skills during a five-week placement in a high-level Democratic mid-term election campaign.
“The Camp Progress Practicum is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a select few dedicated organizers to receive the best training from leading progressives south of the border,” said Executive Director Rick Smith. “We are very excited to offer Canadian progressives the chance to experience firsthand the cutting edge of electoral politics."
The Practicum is the Canadian component of 270 Strategies’ 270///360 Training Intensive, a unique program that offers participants cutting-edge training as well as placements in Democratic battleground campaigns in this fall’s U.S. midterm elections.
“We’re extremely proud to partner with the Broadbent Institute to extend this unique and valuable training opportunity to Canadian progressives,” said Mitch Stewart, a founding partner at 270 Strategies and former Battleground States Director of Obama for America. “Their immersion in some of the most cutting-edge campaigns in the United States will surely help them advance their own progressive causes when they return to their communities.”
The Camp Progress Practicum will run in three phases: a five-day intensive training from 29 September to 3 October in Chicago, a placement with a leading Democratic campaign from 4 October to 9 November, and a Key Learnings Conference on 10 November.
