Graham Mitchell, A Beloved Friend and Colleague

Graham Mitchell was a cherished member of the Broadbent family and we are deeply saddened by his passing on October 8th after a brief battle with cancer.

As the Director of Leadership and Training at the Institute from 2013 to 2015, Graham created foundational programs that brought activists and movement builders together in innovative ways to build Canada’s grassroots and political capacity to win progressive change. His work was hugely successful - everyone wanted to be part of it because Graham was brilliant, strategic, effective and above all else one of the most kind and welcoming people one could hope to meet.

After his time on staff Graham continued working with the Institute on a variety of wonderful projects until his passing, including a new online leadership and training program the Institute will be launching in the coming weeks. To many, Graham was more than a colleague. His generous and jovial nature meant he made friends wherever he went. Graham’s humble wisdom and passion for making the world a better place drew people to him in meaningful ways.

Graham is survived by his two children, Milo and Emmett, and his partner, Deanna Yerichuk. The Institute holds these three precious people in our thoughts and in our hearts.
