Dr. Roberta Lexier

Roberta Lexier is an Associate Professor in the Department of General Education at Mount Royal University. Her research examines social movements and social change in both the past and the present. Past research explored the history of student movements in Canada in the 1960s while her current projects analyze the connections between social movements and left political parties to determine the benefits and limitations of combined action for social change. She is co-editor of a collection of essays on the past, present, and future of the New Democratic Party set for publication in 2018. She is also beginning work on a project that will consider the possible ways that divisions within and between social movements might successfully contribute to social change. Her overall interest is in trying to understand how and why individuals come together to try to effect social change.
