On behalf of the Broadbent Institute, we would like to acknowledge and congratulate the Senate for voting in favour of Senator Hugh Segal's amendments to Bill C-377 and for standing up for the rights of millions of Canadian workers.
In a show of its underused capability to provide sober second thought to legislation, the Bill that Senator Segal previously derided for having an "anti-labour bias running rampant" that "diminishes the imperative of free speech, freedom of assembly and free collective bargaining" will now go back to the House of Commons where its future is uncertain.
Today's vote is good news for Canada's democracy and economy.
