Wealth and income gap in Canada is at an all-time high, and its tax system is allowing for wealth to be hoarded by a few by taxing profits at a lower rate than income. During the pandemic, Canadian billionaires have increased their wealth by $78 billion. Today, the top 1% control 25% of total wealth in Canada, while the bottom 40% control 1.2% of all wealth. To get to the bottom of how the rich are getting absurdly richer and exactly how they’re getting away with it, authors Angella MacEwen and Jonathan Gauvin will answer all your tax justice questions, and unpack how Canada got to this extreme segregation of wealth, and its solutions.
