Remembering Des Morton

Desmond Morton was a remarkable Canadian and a renowned historian, author and Professor at McGill University. He passed away on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019.

The following is Ed Broadbent's statement on the passing of his longtime friend, Des Morton:

"Des Morton was a remarkable Canadian. He was an outstanding historian. He was a man passionately committed to Canada and, in his values, a deeply committed social democrat. Many Canadians, myself included, learned much about the country we love through reading his many engaging historical writings. He will be missed by a great many people, not only in Quebec but right across the country and around the world. I want to extend to Gael and his children my deepest sympathies." – Ed Broadbent

Ed also appeared on CBC's As It Happens to remember and share the fearless honesty of his friend, and fellow progressive. Listen to the episode here

In 2011, Morton wrote an evocative essay titled 'Is History Another Word for Experience? Morton’s Confessions'.
