OTTAWA — Broadbent Institute chair Ed Broadbent will testify at the Special Committee on Electoral Reform (ERRE) on Monday, August 29, 2016, in Ottawa.
The Liberal government has promised that the 2015 federal election would be the last one using first-past-the-post. The special committee is studying options to replace the majoritarian system, or, in the words of Committee Chair and Liberal MP Francis Scarpaleggia, "to examine options available for modifying Canada’s electoral system so that the distribution of seats in the House of Commons better reflects each party’s share of the popular vote."
Broadbent, a longtime advocate of the principle of proportionality, will make the case for a system of proportional representation in place for the 2019 election.
